The collaboration simplifies the fragmented EU payments market by ensuring a seamless experience for both card-present and online transactions in car rental sector across Hungary, Portugal, and Romania
Center Valley, PA – April 15, 2025 – Shift4 (NYSE: FOUR), a global leader in integrated payments and commerce technology, today announced its expanded partnership with European car rental group, Klass Wagen, to streamline payments across its rental service operations. Through this partnership, Klass Wagen will deploy Shift4’s comprehensive payment processing solutions to improve transaction efficiency across both card-present (POS) and e-commerce channels. This collaboration strengthens Shift4’s growing footprint in the car rental sector, with the rollout spanning locations in Romania, Portugal, and Hungary, with potential expansions into additional markets.
Car rental businesses face unique payment challenges due to partial capture requirements and other sector regulations, including managing security deposits, processing late fees, and handling toll charges and damage claims. These challenges often result in delayed transactions, inefficiencies in payment reconciliation and the need for manual follow-ups. By integrating Shift4’s end-to-end solution, Klass Wagen can now automate these processes, ensuring seamless and secure transactions for both in-person and online bookings.
Following the success of the partnership’s initial roll out in 2024, Klass Wagen has expanded its use of Shift4’s solutions from an initial eight POS terminals to 150 throughout Europe. The integration also enhances Klass Wagen’s e-commerce payment processing, enabling a streamlined online booking experience. This comprehensive offering allows Klass Wagen to efficiently manage deposits, process toll fees and fines, and enhance overall customer transactions to reduce manual processes and improve operational efficiency.
“Shift4 is committed to building tailored payment strategies and solutions to transform merchant operations in industries that face complex transaction challenges, such as the car rental sector,” said Or Frankenstein Paran, VP of Sales & Business Development at Shift4 Europe. “Our collaboration with Klass Wagen demonstrates how Shift4’s advanced payments technology and infrastructure can dramatically streamline operations and support business growth across diverse markets.”
“Partnering with Shift4 allows us to provide top-of-the-line service to our customers while ensuring our payment infrastructure supports our long-term business goals and growth in the following years,” said Norbert Sabou, CEO at Klass Wagen.
Andreea Dabau responsible for Transactions & Payments leading the project at Klass Wagen further added “The ability to seamlessly process rental sector-specific payments—whether at the counter, online, or retroactively for business reconciliation—is critical for operational success in the auto rental business as well as providing the best possible customer experience.”
